Right of Way Texas is an independent public-accountability project. Our goal is to make complex public and utility projects understandable without sacrificing accuracy.

Our reporting standard

We prefer primary records: permits, contracts, public filings, photographs, video, correspondence, government records, and on-the-record statements. Community reports are leads, not established facts. We verify material claims before relying on them publicly.

We distinguish between established facts, a party’s stated position, our analysis, and unresolved questions. When the record does not support a conclusion, we say so.

Fairness and responses

When a person, company, contractor, agency, university, or utility is materially criticized, we seek to describe the underlying record fairly and will publish substantive responses when appropriate. Naming an individual requires a legitimate reporting reason and factual support.

Corrections

We do not treat access to a document, photograph, video, or online post as permission to republish it. We use public-domain material, our own material, licensed material, material submitted with appropriate permission, and limited excerpts or other uses where legally appropriate.
